Thomas E. Oplinger, CPA

Partner


Thomas joined Sabel & Oplinger, CPA, PC as partner in 1976. Under his leadership, the company has grown from a small write-up tax practice to an audit and consulting firm with notable professional and technical capabilities, including groups specializing in cooperatives and condominiums, non-profits, family-owned businesses, estates and trusts. Tom’s business philosophy is one of personal service, teamwork, and relationship-building, with the client’s interests always coming first. He has been involved in many local civic organizations throughout his career, including The Southampton Youth Association, Southampton Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Southampton Golf Club, and a past president of the Rotary Club of Southampton. Professionally, he is a member of both the AICPA and the NYSSCPA. Tom received a B.A. in accounting from Adelphi University.

Robert J. Strebel, CPA

Partner


Robert began his career at Sabel & Oplinger, CPA, PC in 1996 as a part time tax preparer. Prior to joining the firm full time he was the General Manager/Controller of a large east-end family business. He has been active in advancing technology for the firm and has translated these skills into consulting with our clients. He has been involved in all aspects of the firm’s practice areas and has played an integral role in the firm’s continued growth. He has developed extensive knowledge in foreign taxation as it applies to non-residents. He sits on various local boards, including The Southampton Business Alliance, Southampton Town Business Advisory Council as well professionally being a member of both the AICPA and the NYSSCPA. Bobby received a BA in accounting from Long Island University.

Mary Ann Mendel, CPA

Director of Not-For-Profit Services


Mary Ann Mendel, CPA, is our director of not-for-profit services, which includes private clubs, foundations and other charitable organizations. She has over two decades of managerial and consulting experience in this highly specialized field. She received a B.A. in accounting from Dowling College.

Dominick Scuderi

Accountant


Dominick Scuderi has over a decade of experience in servicing commercial, individual, and high-net worth clients. He has a wide-range of knowledge of systems and internal controls, as well as being proficient in assisting clients with QuickBooks. He has used this experience to expand his capabilities in the tax and reporting requirements of condos, cooperatives, and homeowners associations (CIRA). He received a B.A. in accounting from Dowling College.

John Trahan, CPA

Accountant


John Trahan, CPA, in addition to his other responsibilities in the firm, has developed a specialty in condos, cooperatives, and homeowners associations, commonly referred to as Common Interest Realty Associations (CIRA). He has worked extensively with condo and co-op boards who have benefited from his tax and specialized knowledge. He received a B.A. in accounting from Baruch College.

Meg Wernersbach, EA, heads the firm’s estates and trusts division, and is our director of taxation. She specializes in developing long-term strategies for our clients, including high net-worth and foreign individuals. She has a B.S. in accounting from the State University of Oswego.
